Tikkun Olam is Hebrew for "Repairing the World"
Our congregation strives not only to provide care. We are piloting several projects that seek to address the causes of social injustice and suffering, or the patterns of living that endanger our planet. Many members of the congregation are also active individually as professionals and lay leaders of area nonprofits, and in local and state government.
- Members volunteer weekly at the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, preparing and serving meals as well as distributing food for people to have at home.
- For many years we have hosted the Nashua area CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty). The CROP Walk brings together congregations of all faiths – hundreds of walkers raising $40-50,000 each year to fight hunger in Greater Nashua and worldwide.
- Our Sisterhood Gift Shop stocks many Fair Trade items, including chocolate year-round and for Chanuka and Pesach as well as Judaica such as Mayaworks kippot and Judaica.
- Members have volunteered at Family Promise of Greater Nashua at Anne Marie House, where families make the transition out of homelessness and learn skills for self-sufficiency.
