Mechirat Chametz (Selling Chametz) 5784

According to the Torah, chametz (leavened items) shall be neither eaten nor found in Jewish homes. When this is impractical it is permitted to sell chametz and legally transfer the part of the premises on which it is located to someone who is not Jewish, leaving everything in place and also fulfilling the letter of the commandment. Rabbi Jon will effect a legal sale of all the community’s chametz before Pesach on the basis of the authority granted herein. Chametz areas on your premises should be blocked off during Pesach, for example by taping over a cabinet door to keep it closed or putting things in a closed box.

By completing this form I/we fully appoint, empower and permit Rabbi Jonathan Spira-Savett to act as my agent to sell on or before midday of the 14th of Nissan 5784, corresponding to the 22nd of April 2024, all chametz that I/we and any members of my/our family possess knowingly or unknowingly, as defined in Torah and rabbinic law, and to lease out all places where the aforementioned chametz is found, at the locations listed below or in places unknown that are my legal property.

If you wish, you may also make a donation to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund for Ma'ot Chittin ("money for wheat"), which goes to help people purchase food for Pesach which can be an extra burdensome expense.
