Saturday, January 11, 2025 • 11 Tevet 5785
12:00 PM - 2:00 PMMaya Sakran, age 27, was born and raised in the Druze village of Maghar in northern Israel, and over the years has grown to become an inspiring figure in her community and beyond. She is married to Amal, and belongs to the Druze community, with her unique journey shaped by a sense of mission and a commitment to social change. Maya studied Accounting and Business Administration at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she discovered the power of education to foster both personal and social transformation. During her studies, she joined the university’s Social Engagement Unit, a role that perfectly aligned with her values and desire to make a positive impact on society. Through this work, Maya promoted the importance of social responsibility and engagement, establishing herself as a catalyst for change within her community and among diverse populations. As a student, she also served as an ambassador for the Hebrew University, focusing on promoting education for women from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Maya viewed this role as a mission: to make higher education accessible to women from all backgrounds and to encourage their economic and social independence. She believed that education is the key to building an equitable society where women from diverse backgrounds can grow and thrive. Beyond her studies and social involvement, Maya had the unique and meaningful experience of sharing her personal story with donors, professors, researchers, and public figures. This strengthened her sense of purpose and her belief in the power of intercultural dialogue to create change. Inspired by these experiences, she decided to join a mission with the Jewish Agency, where she continues to connect communities, inspire others, and advocate for partnerships based on shared values of justice, equality, and empowerment.
