Dr. Alisa Hurwitz will moderate a panel featuring trans and non-binary Jews speaking about their experiences of Jewishness as queer folks, queer Jewish joy, the rise in anti-trans legislation, and how to channel our Jewish values to create inclusive Jewish spaces.

Ozzy Irving Gold-Shapiro (they/he) is a curious historian, Yiddishist, teacher, and translator living on Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, and Nonotuck land in so-called western Massachusetts. They can usually be found in dusty and/or digital archives poking around in the past, or up on stage, playing music with their klezmer band Burikes (“beets” in Yiddish) or performing in Yiddish archival-based spectacle theater projects. In addition to facilitating community spectacle parades and Jewish food and pickling workshops, they are an Jewish educator, a field fellow for the Yiddish Book Center's Wexler Oral History Project, and a trainer with Keshet. They love empowering people of all ages to build open, meaningful, and vibrant communities.

Hayley St. James (they/them) is an autistic non-binary playwright based in Brooklyn. Their work explores the queer neurodivergent experience in inventive and theatrical ways.  They’re proud of their Jewish heritage and hope to explore it further in their future work.

Eli Lurie Sobel (they/them) is a writer and educator from Somerville, MA. Eli also leads trainings through Keshet, a nonprofit working for LGBTQ+ equity and belonging in Jewish spaces, and has collaborated with Newton-based mikveh Mayyim Hayyim to create trans-inclusive programming. They will be teaching a course titled “Judaism and Queerness” at Tufts University in fall 2023.
